Food packaging will require a barrier against moister, air, heat or dust depending on the type of food being packed. The main purpose of food packaging is to preserve the food until a point of consumption. This means preventing things such as certain bacteria from enter the food or ensuring the food remains undamaged through dropping or breaking. Its advantages as a food packaging are that it produces a moister barrier that makes it ideal for drink bottles. It also weighs a tenth of glass bottles and does not shatter. It is also easily recycled.

The main advantage of Aluminium it is strong as well as being reasonably light it is also easily recyclable. It does’t contain any major toxins that are not easily avoided. It’s main disadvantage however is that it is expensive due the fact that it is produced using electrolysis.
Plastic is durable and often recyclable, however it is never biodegradable. Is highly toxic and the toxins are also soluble meaning that they can be soaked into most liquids, which are stored in it for an extended period of time.
Glass has no chance of passing on toxins, however it is also heavy and easily broken and expensive.
The end is a little more on the save the planet than the science side of things, however the information is reliable and good.
